In indoor skydiving, where precision and passion come together, we sometimes face real logistical challenges. Professional flyers who train with us and are active in a wide range of disciplines regularly use the wind tunnel facility for 30-minute sessions. The coordination between the dynamic flyers and the formation teams is particularly tricky.
Passes of up to 5 minutes are ideal for the dynamic disciplines. So if you have a booking time of 15 minutes per half hour, you do 3 changes. In contrast, formation teams in skydiving need shorter runs of 90 to 100 seconds. This means that they change up to 9 or 10 times in the same time. When a formation team and a freefly team train at the same time, things get really busy and there is an imbalance because longer runs reduce the number of changes.
Solutions for a better distribution of flight times
So when it comes to better distributing flight times in the wind tunnel, a willingness to compromise is required. This is the only way we can make operations more efficient and fairer for everyone. The following options are available to achieve this:
- Adjustment of the passage times: With bookings of 15 minutes per team and session, the teams in dynamic and freefly disciplines plan their runs with a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. This means that they have 6 changes. Formation teams, on the other hand, plan their runs with a minimum of 2 minutes and 20 seconds, which means 7 rotations. With this planning, everyone meets in the middle and the flying runs smoothly.
If more rotations are required, the following booking options are available:
- If you reduce the booking time to 10 minutes per session, you can fly 6 to 7 rotations with 90-second passage times. This can also be easily combined with all other flying.
- If you book a complete 30-minute session for a team, you can arrange individual run-through times as long as the 30-minute time limit is adhered to.
- If you coordinate your booking with a team with the same requirements for the runs, this will work in all cases. We are happy to provide support here and try to bring teams with the same needs together. It is important that we receive training requests in good time. Please use our form for this purpose. We will then get in touch with you as soon as possible.
What about the deadlines for booking training times for 2025?
Booking period 1st half of 2025 ➡️ Deadline for submission of training dates/times : End of July 2024.
Booking period 2nd half of 2025 ➡️ Deadline for submission of training dates/times End of January 2025.
Reaching the goal together with a willingness to compromise, flexibility and communication
We attach great importance to finding good solutions together so that all athletes feel comfortable and can make the most of their training time. This only works if everyone pulls together, is willing to compromise and communicates openly. We can make the bookings flexible and adjust the times so that all participants have an optimal training experience and every session in the wind tunnel is both efficient and fair.
We will be happy to offer the options suggested above in the future. If it turns out that these offers are not yet good enough or do not work, we will be happy to consider what else we can do to ensure that all Proflyers are happy with us. This could mean, for example, that we declare the above solutions to be binding. However, we would prefer to keep talking to each other.
Let’s continue to work together to get the best out of every training session. Not yet a Proflyer? Become a Proflyer now!
