It’s not for nothing that they say that no champion has ever fallen from the sky, although that’s pretty close to the reality for indoor skydivers. Preparing for our Dynamic Cup – as for any competition – requires both physical and mental training. The competition is all about everything, you have to be able to perform at the push of a button. The better prepared you are, the stronger your self-confidence will be and the less nervous you will be before the competition. Here are some suggestions on how you can best prepare for the competition.
- Gain experience: Gain as much experience as possible in every aspect of indoor skydiving to improve your flying skills. The more you fly, the better you get.
- Planning: Create a training plan and set yourself realistic goals. Make sure that you prepare your sessions as well as possible. Think in advance about what you want to focus on during training. Remember: less is often more. Especially when flying, you should focus on a maximum of 1-2 key areas at a time.
- Improve your technique: Work on your technique and refine your skills. This includes mastering different maneuvers, working with your team partner and understanding the elements.
- Teamwork: When flying with a partner or team, cooperation is crucial. Practice flying with your partners to improve collaboration and develop a better understanding of each other. This includes finding ways to communicate effectively and support each other during the flight.
- Physical fitness: As indoor skydiving is physically demanding, it is important to maintain a good level of physical fitness. Strength, flexibility and endurance are crucial. Regular training outside the tunnel, such as strength training, yoga or cardio exercises, can help you improve your physical fitness.
- Mental training: Visualize the flight manoeuvres and routines in your head to improve your mental understanding and concentration. Imagine how you will perform the desired movements and where you are in the wind tunnel. Mental training can help you to stay focused in competition and training and to internalize your manoeuvres more quickly.
- Feedback and analysis: Take time to analyze your flight videos and get feedback from experienced pilots or trainers. Identify areas where you can improve and work specifically on overcoming your weaknesses.
- Coaching: Our coaches are always available to explain and teach you rules and elements. Use the existing knowledge and get as much information as possible.
- Competition practice: Take part in local or regional competitions to gain experience in a competition environment. The pressure of competition is usually very different from “recreational” flying in a tunnel. It is therefore important to get used to it, learn how to deal with it and gain experience.
- Rest and relaxation: Despite training, make sure you take sufficient rest breaks and recover before the competition. The better you feel, the more energy and motivation you will have, both physically and mentally. You know best whether you can achieve this through relaxation exercises, more sleep or a certain type of diet.
Participating in indoor skydiving competitions requires time, commitment and continuous training to be successful. Stay patient, learn from your experiences and enjoy the process of learning and growing in this exciting sport. The beauty of it is that with a goal in mind, you will progress much faster and, above all, more efficiently and effectively.
