Christmas hustle and bustle, Christmas hustle and bustle – at the end of the year, we take the time to look back on the past 12 months, and quite a lot has happened. At Windwerk, we pursue two objectives: To promote indoor skydiving as a professional sport and at the same time to make it accessible to a wide audience. That’s why we try to offer much more than just flying: an inviting atmosphere, a shot of adrenaline, time for togetherness, unique experiences, lasting memories, sustainable team building, motivated employees with a common goal – happy guests.
Of course, not everything always runs smoothly and the current economic and geopolitical situation worries us. Nevertheless, we are optimistic about the future and are now looking back with satisfaction, as we have successfully implemented many of our plans.
Swiss Championships in the Windwerk
On 25. and 26. March we hosted the best of the best of the indoor skydiving scene. The Swiss Championships were exciting, thrilling and very dynamic. For two days, 39 teams and individuals, a total of 60 sport flyers and passionate amateur teams, showed off their skills in seven competition disciplines. With fantastic spring weather and a great atmosphere, the wind tunnel literally ran hot.
2nd FAI European Indoor Skydiving Championships (EISC) and 4th FAI World Cup of Indoor Skydiving 2022 (WCIS) – Tschaby Windwerk was there
This showed once again that the Swiss are world and European class in indoor skydiving and were able to achieve great successes. We are of course particularly proud of our team: Tschaby Windwerk narrowly missed out on bronze at the EISC, but was able to celebrate a strong 4th place. 4th place. At the WCIS they took 5th place for themselves. All the other teams that competed under the Swiss flag are also excellent ambassadors for our sport.
The Windwerk party
In May, we were finally able to celebrate our frequent flyer thank-you party, which we had to postpone several times due to the pandemic. With 150 great guests and good food, the atmosphere was great. Amalie Hegland, Proflyer coach and participant in the European and World Championships, put on an impressive freestyle flying performance and the kids from SiRo-Gravity literally blew the older generation away. A surprise competition provided even more excitement. Over 45 volunteers took the plunge into the warm wind tunnel. The challenge was to deactivate the light sensors of our flight system as quickly as possible. One best time after another followed and the competition fever reached unimagined heights. Mega entertainment for everyone!
Surfing the wave – the Windwerk team outing
We changed the element at this year’s team event: The surf waves in Sion were great fun for everyone and showed that there is more than just air. At the end of the day at the quarry pond, we just managed to avoid a drone accident caused by the overestimation of the pilot Thomas*. We then had dinner together in Alaia Bay. The drinks were reasonably limited (spoiler) and thanks to a bet, speedster Stefan* did a few laps of the surf pool for everyone’s amusement, albeit to the chagrin of the operator. The next day we went on to the paintball farm in Lucerne. Fortunately, there were no accidents, but there were plenty of bruises that still reminded us of our trip days later.
* Names slightly changed by the editors 😉
Swiss Location Award 2022 – we are “outstanding”
In July, the Swiss Location Award 2022 recognized us as an “Outstanding Location” with the highest number of points among the experience locations. Many thanks to everyone who played their part in the voting! Receiving such great feedback motivates us immensely and we will not rest on our laurels. A drum roll also goes to the Windwerk team, who show outstanding commitment every day.
Without limit: We make everyone fly
Inclusion is important to us. Our flight instructor Novi, for example, has a lot of experience in working with people with visual impairments. He has developed a flight course tailored to their individual needs(VIDEO). We have also had the pleasure of accompanying a group of young people with muscular dystrophy into weightlessness. The experiences we have together with children, young people and adults with disabilities are very enriching. They help us to overcome our own limitations and to keep trying to discover new possibilities. They also make us more aware of the importance of inclusion in our everyday lives.
Our new sun terrace
As outdoor seating, especially covered seating, has been in short supply so far, we have found a remedy. However, we almost no longer believe that the patio furniture will be delivered before this blog post is published. By spring, we’ll certainly be set up and looking forward to spending cozy hours in the sun on our south-facing terrace.
Windwerk reinvents itself – the brand relaunch
Revising our marketing strategy and processes was at the top of our agenda this year in order to position Windwerk more strongly as a brand. Of course, this mainly takes place behind the scenes. We took a critical look at everything from the logo and social media to the voucher and gave it a facelift. We have saved the website for next year.
Speaking of 2023 – here’s a little foretaste:
The Indoor Skydiving Swiss Championships will take place on 10. and March 11, 2023. This time not with us, but with the colleagues in Sion. Shortly afterwards, from April 19 to 23, 2023, things will get turbulent again at the FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship in Slovakia.
And on December 8, we will be celebrating our 5th anniversary in style. You are welcome to mark the date in your diary. We will of course do everything we can to put on a mega event with special guests.
But now back to the end of the year: We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best for the coming year. We are grateful for the great support we receive from our visitors, volunteers and supporters. Only with them and an unbeatable team can we pursue and achieve our goals. Thank you very much!
The Windwerk team warmly welcomes you:
Merry Christmas and a good night!
